A blog by J. Weyh
Today, I didn't get to implement much, since watching the tutorial I'm following took quite while. I decided to proceed on my own from now on, and I couldn't help myself but try to add some frontend to my application.
So I included the Thymeleaf dependency to my project, chose a Thymeleaf template and inserted a Navbar using Bootstrap (all of this by following yet another tutorial.
Now, when I open my application, I actually have something to look at except Json data!
I'm content with what I achieved today. It may not be as much progress as I achieved during the last 2 days, but it's progress nevertheless.
I ended my workday by showing my application code base to my boyfriend, trying to explain all I've learnt about Spring thus far, and how it all works together in my application. I was quite surprised to find out I was more confident than I had realized! Following tutorials online, it's easy to feel like you haven't actually done and achieved anything yourself, when in reality you've actually started to build up knowledge in the process.
Since I was most curious about how to connect an application's backend to a frontend (because I enjoy clicking buttons and then seeing stuff happen that my backend makes happen), tomorrow I will pick up where I left off.
Currently, my application only displays a bit of text and links to the GET request of my database. Tomorrow I will try to learn how to display that GET as a pretty table, and then I'll try to add buttons / text fields and connect those to my CRUD API. Since this is the first time I'll be working without the guidance of video tutorials, I expect to run into a lot more problems from now on. But for now I'm happy with what I've achieved.
